October 2026 Newsletter

We were out the first week of October, but the rest of the month is packed with activity, so let’s take a look at what’s coming up next!

September Roundup

Following Join Scouting Night, We had 32 Scouts join us for our joint Den Meeting. Leaders reviewed the Cub Scout sign, Cub Scout salute, Scout Oath and Scout Law with the help of returning Scouts. We even learned about the Cub Scout Six Essentials that we should bring in our backpacks when we're outdoors or on Scouting adventures. We followed that up with a family hike around Hayes Elementary and wrapped up the evening with activities for each den.

Our Scout families also had a chance to visit the Howell Nature Center last weekend to take part in their planned workshops for several dens. Scouts explored the area through a hike and practiced finding signs of wildlife and following the Leave No Trace principles for kids.

We will continue to recruit adult leaders over the next few weeks to help facilitate each den and ensure that we can provide a meaningful, positive and safe experience for every Scout. Adult leaders are able to get their registration fee reimbursed by the pack. If you have any questions about leadership, please reach out to Cubmaster Brandon Mullins via email at brandonmullins@hayespack729.org or text (734) 644-1166.

Annual Health and Medical Record

These health forms provide pack leaders with critical information about the health history and emergency contact information of our Scouts. They also allow leaders to review any treatment plans for participants with families ahead of pack activities, such as outdoor hikes and camping, in order to provide a safe experience for everyone.

A complete Annual Health and Medical Record, parts A & B are required for all adults and youth taking part in overnight activities.

You can download the health form as a fillable PDF here:
https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_AB.pdf

Please submit your forms to our Committee Chair, Megen Neace.

Fall Camporee

We are headed back to D-Bar-A Scout Ranch from October 23rd to October 25th for a spooky Halloween-themed Fall Camporee. We managed to secure the famed Draper Cabin, which includes lake access where we can fish, and the astronomy building where if the sky is clear we can look at the stars. You can show up as early as 6pm on Friday, and we expect to leave roughly around 10am on Sunday.

GPS coordinates to Draper Cabin are here. (https://share.google/aq9P1Mrmk4wU35f5c)
When using your GPS, select Draper Cabin as your destination and add the D-Bar-A Scout Ranch as a stop along the way so you hit the right entrance. And you can park right outside the grounds of the cabin.

You can find the official Cub Scout Packing List Here: cub-packing-list.pdf (michiganscouting.org)

In addition, remember that if you are sleeping in the cabin to bring all bedding as the cabins just have bare mattresses, and you should have dinner before you arrive on Friday as our first meal is breakfast in the morning.

The pack provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner, on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday but the various dens will be doing the cooking and cleaning, so be sure to check the duty roster when you arrive.

You can stay in the cabin or camp in a tent. Please get your tickets using the button below.

Please order your tickets by October 26th.

Cubmaster’s Minute

Looking ahead to next month, Pack 729 will participate in an annual community service project, Scouting for Food. Scouts, parents, and leaders all work together to tackle hunger in Michigan through this project. We will drop off bags in our neighborhoods on November 7 to invite them to take part in the food drive. On November 14, we will pick up non-perishable food donations from those neighborhoods and deliver them to a local food pantry.

That’s it for the spookiest month of the year, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone at camp!
